Fund Community Solutions

There is no single cause of the problems our community faces, and there is no single solution. United Way—with the help of your donations to the Community Fund—funds nearly 80 programs in the Greater Rochester area. These programs help address our community's most pressing issues through strategies that primarily focus on prevention and helping as many people as possible.

Our community investment decisions are made by staff and volunteers from around the community who work alongside experts to develop policy and strategy, review requests for funding and ensure services are delivered according to our Blueprints for Change.

Not-for-Profit Sustainability Initiative

The challenges facing not-for-profits today are of greater magnitude than ever before. United Way believes that to thrive, not-for-profit organizations must begin to explore collaboration, sharpen their focus or modify services in light of changing community priorities. United Way of Greater Rochester is committed to helping ensure the sustainability of Rochester's not-for-profit, human service system and has established a Not-for-Profit Sustainability Consortium of organizations that are interested in and committed to this issue.  Click here to learn more about United Way's Not-for-Profit Sustainability Initiative.

Technical Assistance Grants - Synergy Fund

United Way of Greater Rochester began the Synergy Fund—a program that works to support increased operational efficiencies among not-for-profit organizations and support merging agencies with technology, facility relocation and enhanced infrastructure—in 2008. Since the program's launch, more than $350,000 in grants has been committed to cooperating organizations. Under the new synergy program, there have been four completed affiliations between non-profit organizations in Rochester, with additional projects under way.
